Diveena Marcus

Art and music have been an integrated part of my entire life. From an early age my interest in people compelled me to sketch portraits. 'I remember being more a part of my parent’s gatherings at our home by sketching portraits of the guests and giving them as gifts upon their departures.' At the age of 10 I was asked to be in a special art program in Europe. At the end of this program I created a paper mural and dedicated it to Michelangelo. It was honored by being put up in the school. 'From that point on I knew I had a passion for art in the larger format.'
Michelangelo and the Italian renaissance painters have been an influence from my youth. I was fortunate to grow up living in several countries thus helping me to appreciate and incorporate a variance of attitude in my work. My appreciations for the mural work of Diego Rivera and Michelangelo have been the fuel for my passion to do murals. I will always be entranced by the magnificence and power of the Egyptian art and reliefs as well the work of indigenous peoples.

I was born in Bossier City Louisiana and shortly after my family moved to the south pacific. My hobbies were sketching and giving art lessons to the neighborhood children. I did not take up art in a professional venue until I embraced a spiritual life. Prior I attended the Fashion Institute of Design in Los Angeles and worked as a sample maker and tailor in Beverly Hills. I also worked in repertory and professional theatre as costume builder and designer, sound and lighting tech and properties, set building, make-up, stage managing and acting.
I began my major art work creating murals and the majority has been commissioned for institutions and private residences. I work with many different surfaces and build them as well. My primary medium is acrylic for murals and oils for canvas work. I have studied silk screening, graphic arts and some painting but basically I am a self taught artist. My work has been exhibited at the University of Ottawa in Canada during Divina Femina, a women in religion consortium; the Rosicrucian Museum in San Jose California; A view in Paradise Gallery in Hilo Hawaii, and presently there are pieces in Volcano Garden Arts Gallery in Volcano Hawaii.
My vision and process as an artist is to resurrect within me as well as the viewer a sense of beauty, power and activation of our innate spiritual essence. Since I am a feminist I’ve been concentrating on the Goddess and holy women.
Music performance and recording is also an artistic venue in which I like to exercise expression. I produced a Music CD White Lotus and also a music and dance performance Isis Dance in honor and in expression of the archetypes of the ancients.
